Christie Heart (previously known as Chris Lewis) began performing in 1990 in Darwin, NT with Irish folk trio Murphy's Law and returned to Melbourne in 1992.
Her first album Nightingale 1, a collection of atmospheric Celtic style songs, was released in 1993. That year and again in 1994, she won first prize in the Melbourne Irish Festival Song Competition for outstanding vocals and teamed up with guitarists Trevor Shard and Greg Leon. In 1994, with the addition of Andy Baylor on violin and Mark Mebalds on keys, she recorded a live album at the Botanical Hotel and the Continental Cafe, Melbourne.
Moving away from traditional folk, Christie began writing original songs and in 1998 won the Tamworth Country Song Search for her song Red Dirt Road. The following year she released Country/Folk album From The Heart and two of her songs Sugarloaf and Heartbreak On The land were shortlisted in the Tamworth Songwriters Association: Professional song writing competition and her song Shane was shortlisted in the UniSong International Song Competition.
In the mid 00's, Christie conceived the idea of writing a novel based around the storylines in 12 original songs and in 2012 the book with album Leave The Wake Behind was released. From that time, performing took a back seat to study and writing and for a while her music was largely unheard. Then, in 2020, with award winning sound engineer, Andy Stewart themillstudio.com.au/studio, Christie remastered a selection of tracks from across her entire catalogue to create 4 Singles - Leave The Wake Behind, I Love You (In Any Language), Ready For The Times To Get Better and Heartbreaks & Shipwrecks - an EP of Live tracks Christie Heart In Celtic Cabaret - and 2 Albums A Little Bit Country & Folk and Retro Folk (see below). The songs are available to stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon and all major music platforms world-wide. Click the link below to listen on YouTube and Spotify:
